Pros

Stable company and largely recession proof. Gym on site.

Cons

- No coffee, mugs, or cups for water. Was very dehydrated on my first day of work as was not told this was the case (who doesn't provide their employees coffee and cups and mugs etc?) - Compensation is poor compared to oil and gas, CP is facing an exodus of employees currently moving to oil and gas because CP only gives 2% raises a year. New CPA makes 80-90K at CP plus 15% bonus vs 100K base plus 20-30% bonus, and LTIP in oil and gas. Basically if you can work in oil and gas go for it. - Just brought in work from home 2 days a week, literally only because they couldn't hire people without it. Before that you would be fired for working from home or not in Calgary. - CP culture - Consequential leadership is as toxic as it sounds. - Toxic environment where teams cast blame on one another to avoid accountability.

Horrible Culture

Pros

Good pay, bonuses, and benefits

Cons

Work culture is absolutely horrible. Constantly understaffed, management hates the union, union hates management. Upper management expects middle managers to literally work 24/7. Supervisors are on call 24/7 and are constantly woken up with phone calls when they try to sleep during the night or day. Upper management attempts to regulate discretionary effort by giving front-line supervisors "safety" homework assignments. Employees are being constantly being berated and talked down to while working 60-80+ hour weeks with no overtime because its "salary". Good pay but not even close to being worth it.

Pros

Good pay Mediocre benefits They are constantly hiring ( cant keep people)

Cons

Unrealistic expectations Dishonest about working conditions and misleading Company was founded in 1881 and culture has not changed Toxic working environment, job constantly threatened. Their attrition rate is 35%. The negative reviews are not fake. They are real and I encourage everyone to not take them lightly. Avoid CP.
