Low pay for faculty compared to comparable universities in other states. Very large and sometimes bureaucratic governance. Most faculty and staff are unionized, resulting in little opportunity for merit pay or bonuses, one-size-fits-all compensation structures, and very long and drawn out salary and benefits negotiations (often takes several years of negotiations for each raise).
