This is the only place I have ever worked where they expect employees to buy stock instead of awarding stock to them.

Middle management are predominantly negative in how they communicate with each other and especially people working below them. They mostly point out what you did wrong and then continue to harp on it until they get distracted by the next thing. You almost never hear them encourage or tell anyone they did a good job. There's a high turn over rate for everyone but management.
