Power tripping management. Lies to their employees

-Favouritism- recently promoted individuals are inexperienced and disciplinary actions are not applied to other employees -anti-unionization-they gave out a letter to everyone, threatening anyone who would like to form a union will face consequences -racism in corporate management: does not encourage cultural diversity, majority of the non-white employees are not given the opportunity to be promoted, are closely watched and will be easily punished for petty mistakes -does not address issues fairly nor do they give opportunities for employees to voice out concerns. It didn't matter, they're not listening anyway -disregard for employees physical health: -chairs were removed from employees assigned to work with computers -hazardous workplace (falling objects, reckless forklift operators who are not punished because of yeah, favouritism) -got rid of the 15 minute break for employees working overtime. -terminates employees without evidence; 5 non-white high-performing employees were falsely accused of discouraging coworkers from signing up for overtime, they were fired the next day. on that same day, the management called for a meeting to use harassment as an excuse and told everyone that 5 were only suspended

Pros

Selling fun outdoor equipment will only take you so far. There is good fellowship and experiences to be had within the company but it continually gets lost with many, many changes to the way they do business.

Cons

Communication for the corp level is terrible. They do things, redo them and then change mind again. Programs rolled out to stores before any communication is sent down on the details. Upper level management does not have a clue what a day in the life inside on of the retail stores is like. The only job sharing the corp office does is at the Nebraska stores. Those stores move at a snails pace compared to the west and east region stores. The HR departments both at the retail and corp level are at best hillbilly, control freaks. They are scared to be sued for terminating employees, paying unemployment, etc... what they should be concerned with is employee retention and culture. Work life balance at the senior management level at stores does NOT exist!!! Period! Regional manager visits are a joke. Finanacial accumen, operations aspects, etc... are not gone over. Instead they run around your stores answering their cell phones, pointing out crooked or missing price tags, and complaining about the rental car they got at the airport. Cabelas retail division is going to fail if the good people in the stores are not listened to!
