Board of Directors and Executives are the Problem

Pros

My team was like a mini family. Yes, there were ups and down, but at the end of the day, we had each other's backs and worked together to accomplish our department goals.

Cons

CalOptima is overseen by an unsympathetic Board of Directors and run by a spineless executive team. CalOptima fails to realize that employee morale directly impacts member care. Yes, a majority of funds should be directed at member care, but lets not forget the employees who make that happen, whether out in the field or behind-the-scenes at the office. Due to the careless actions of the Board and executive leadership's failure to stand up for their employees, CalOptima will experience another brain drain that led to the severe failures experienced in the early 2010s. If you haven't read up on that, I suggest you do so.

Pros

If you want to leave your brain at the door, come work here. No competition, so no need to improve.

Cons

Executives are apathetic, like politicians, they talk a good talk but could care less on how the organization is run as long as they don't have to make a decision. Can't keep any HR staff, the CIO is incompetent and in way over his head.

Company is on a sharp decline

Pros

good benefits and PTO, good location.

Cons

As many reviews have already mentioned the transition to Non-exempt of 657 employees has drastically damaged morale. Many of our best and brightest have already left or are in the process of leaving the organization because they know they'll be treated better elsewhere. Leadership is sadly handicapped here both in terms of their own capabilities and in terms of what they are allowed to do based on the structure of the organization. Sr. Leadership is sub par at best and continue to put forward poor policies and programs.
