sales comp plan

Pros

teaches you to work hard since it's nearly impossible to pay rent on the sales comp plan

Cons

AE comp is laughable. i was told in my interview "most aes make over 100k in their first year" - now knowing how the commission works, it is mathematically impossible to earn 100k unless you exceed 17k in spread every single week for a year. (17,000 spread -3,000 draw = 14,000 x 0.07 commission = $980 x 52 weeks = ~$50,960 commission in a year + ~50k base. and being at 17k sustained every single week is unheard of unless you have been there 5+ years and inherited a top account. they sell new hires on the "uncapped commission" as if that is lucrative, but won't disclose how challenging (and rare) it is to make even a liveable salary at this company recruiters have the chance to raise their base $10k after only producing $65,000 (usually happens 3-4 months after starting). reruiters have clear and attainable goals paced out to hit within a few months, to a few years and onward (senior, pro, manager etc), but the same does not exist for sales. only after producing $2million aggregate you get a "promotion" with an insulting $5k raise. it's 10x harder to get that first start in sales vs recruiting, let alone 2 million
