Overworked, underpaid

Pros

Laid back attitudes Some intelligent peers to learn from Lower expectations than at a larger company You can actually take time off

Cons

Everyone does the job of at least 2-3 people, and no one works a healthy 40 hour week Lots of single points of failure due to running such small teams No salary increases this year, not even for cost of living adjustments - very quickly becoming substantially below market

Pros

Calix is a wonderful place to work. As a remote worker, you sometimes do not get the collaboration you typically see in a traditional office setting. That is not the case at Calix. My team is incredibly active on teams, constantly supporting each other in our daily tasks.

Cons

Not necessarily a con, but it is a very fast paced environment which is not for everyone.

Leadership needs wake up call

Pros

Good collaborative environment with the perks of working remotely.

Cons

If an employee is not excelling in the role, the manager and HR should help transition the employee into a different role where the skills are a better match instead of abruptly firing. CxO suite has a cult-like culture, which comes off as artificial. Fiber technology is tried and tested, customers are old-school somewhere in the rural US - not exactly cutting edge and stay excited. Too many cooks in the kitchen, redundancy with customer success team. Product management is silod and focused on agile process - doesn't get input from other teams before churning out new services and features.

Thank you for your feedback. We actively encourage all team members to share their views. As we often state, our core leadership mantra is “Don’t let me be wrong” where we encourage people to speak up if they disagree. If the team members identify an area where we need to adjust, we are thankful for that opportunity to change and grow. If the team member’s feedback does not align to our broader strategy – then it is a great opportunity to educate on the broader strategy while amplifying that across the company (If one person has a misperception, others probably do also). Our mission is to help broadband providers of all sizes simplify their business, excite their subscribers, and grow their business. We achieve this by providing a platform and educating our customers on how to leverage that platform to transform from a network operator to a broadband managed service provider. That is our job, to help them transform and your comment on our customers being old school rural US is a stereotype where you paint everyone with the same brush. We do not agree. America is filled with innovation, and it is our job to help them unleash that innovation. Thank you for your feedback on the different teams. Our culture of “better, better, never best” is constantly seeking inputs to improve and constantly ensuring that our leadership team is aligned on our purpose, our strategy – which we share every quarter in the Calix Quarterly – and where we are executing well and where we can improve, while continuing to improve our processes around all elements of our business – such as customer input into product ideation, etc.
