Hire within, not so much

Pros

Base pay is ok, but being in Southern California, the wages are not competitive. Great, large company to work for, exciting to be a part of. Discounts on golf equipment. Generally easy going organization. Work hard, play hard mentality.

Cons

The company states that we like to hire from within, but from conversations with 20-30 entry level employees, the overwhelming consensus is that everyone has applied and been denied for multiple openings, where an outside hire was selected. People generally feel stuck in entry level positions, even as the company is seeing record growth. Leadership not totally open to moving to remote or hybrid work for some employees, while offering it to others freely. Labor jobs need to be on site of course. Great leadership personalities, likeable people. However there's a disconnect with the idea of helping raise up the "low level" employees. Everyone has at least a bachelors degree and the grunt work could be easily replaced by automation and machine learning, elevating the level of skill everywhere.

Pros

A good working environment where they let you do your job without high pressure. Pay is fair to good, they have nice people that I worked with. R&D is well equipped to to do your job.

Cons

It’s a good old boys club when it comes to promotions or job advancement, a lot of politics, no loyalty. I was with the company for over twenty years, developed many successful products for the company. When Covid 19 hit, it gave Callaway a great excuse to eliminate long time employees or if a manager just didn’t like you. Some very good managers , some were awful. During the layoff HR was flat out mean. A whooping 6 week severance pay if you were there for three months or twenty five years. I’m older around 60, so looking for work at my age has been impossible, can’t even get a interview, so basically I’ve been thrown into early retirement.
