Because of the CEO's cut throat mantallity no VP, director or manager will tell him anything he doesn't want to here else they would be looking for another job. There is no clear focus or vision. They preach a different story but that is the party line. Calpine may look like a good company from the outside looking in but once in you realize just how disfunction al the company is. At the plant's the staff back stab each other due to insecurity that originates as a result of the lack of leadership, support and direction. Work is cast down to the plant's from Corp "support groups" that bury the plants overworked staff in a continuous unplanned volley of administrative fire drills. Crisis management is non stop. Keeping the plant's running is challenging to say the least given the skeleton staff (head count!), budget (forecasting games) and years of mismanagement. Every plant run as an island. Working at Calpine will male you feel like you are doing all you can do (everyday) just to keep your head above water to survive.

Don't listen to employees. Safety not that important. just making money
