Pros

Great vision and lots of potential.

Cons

Managed by dinosaurs, dreadful location, slow unmotivated colleagues, 9-5 mentality and will be expected to respond to email on holiday / evenings / weekends.

You raise a number of interesting observations. Certainly, its not practical to respond in detail but we certainly appreciate the fact that our colleagues can see a clearly-communicated vision and the potential at Canon, even if we don't agree with the cons listed.

Pros

Some of the benefits are good or above the consensus e.g. the pension. The canteen at Stockley Park is consistently good. No one cares enough to keep tabs you you so you can pretty much do what you want.

Cons

Canon Europe is almost a comical stereotype of all that is wrong with big companies. The atmosphere at Stockley Park is like a mortuary. Low morale is endemic. The work done by Canon Europe is often irrelevant to the countries (NSO's). The NSO's take a dim view of the profligate waste that is Canon Europe e.g. they often question the value that Canon Europe delivers. The senior management team in the large do not care about their employees. Canon marches very much to its own tempo - the length of time it takes to get even little projects off the ground is simply ludicrous - it takes about 2 years to make the changes that were needed 2 years ago. If you are ambitious or want to make a difference, you are wasting your time even looking at Canon Europe.

Sadly it looks like we’re too late to make a positive impact on your impressions. However, our engagement surveys – sent annually to all EMEA employees and administered by a neutral third party – suggest that actually people at Canon do recognise and appreciate both the senior management support they get and the opportunities that exist: in 2015, 76% said they trusted their manager and 62% agreed that Canon is making the changes it needs to be successful in the future. There is also plenty of evidence to suggest that we successfully recruit, retain and motivate some truly exceptional people. However, Canon isn’t the same place it was even 5 years ago and it will doubtless be different again in 5 years time – and that’s what makes Canon an interesting and challenging business to work in. Whether you subscribe to that view or not is fine - it’s not always right for everyone. Best of luck with your future endeavours and I hope you find somewhere you can realise your career ambitions, wherever they may lie.

Pros

This is a company trying to change without really committing to changing so basically box ticking. New offices are spectacular. Just a shame that no-one wants the fight of travelling into this terrible location to spend hours sitting at a desk without any collaboration but be on teams calls all day. People are highly dedicated and hardworking, but unable to influence the culture to embrace a shift to the modern world and new markets and approaches to trusting teams who are remote working.

Cons

Morale is exceptionally low now, probably because blame culture is off the scale. Workloads are excessive. Pay is below market averages. The company is effectively in a managed decline. Every year things are squeezed to get as much out of the dying cash cow as possible so budgets are cut to maximise profits as they know they don't have much longer till the core markets are completely gone . Employees are not valued and they leave in their bucketloads either in frustration or exhaustion or because they are made redundant in the latest round of regular cutbacks.
