Canon Response
10y
It’s hard to respond without knowing when & where you worked as Canon EMEA covers some 45+ territories in the region. However, we’re actively embracing technology and tools that provide newer, flexible ways of working for the future for all 17,000 EMEA employees (e.g. Office 365/Cloud, remote working etc.): Indeed, some of our core solutions and services absolutely depend on it… Sorry to hear your experience wasn’t as positive as it could have been: There has been a huge investment in management communication, tools and resources to create a more open and collaborative working culture, and the results of our recent 2015 Employee Engagement Survey suggest that this has been very positively received.

Pros

- Well recognized company name that look good on a CV - ICT department is a good place to learn the ins and outs of the job if you are new to IT.

Cons

- Depressingly basic for seasoned IT workers. - Low level of knowledge among many of the people holding trainings on their topic of "expertise" with just one or two exceptions. - Poor departmental management with two team leads that are incapable of managing and supporting a team of ~30 agents between them. - Taking pride in having an internal helpdesk when in reality only the simplest incidents such as password resets are handled in-house and close to 40% of incidents are handled via outsourcing to India. - Over reliance on virtualization, web based and cloud solutions at the cost of security and productivity and intent to implement more third party solutions in the near future. - Chaotic IT infra structure with for example over ten different RDP terminals for active directory where one would suffice had the infra structure been better planned. - Chances of growth/promotion within the department are nearly non-existent. - IT staff only receive basic mobile phones belonging in 2003 while the rest of the company receive latest generation iPhone, Samsung and Nokia smart-phones. - Data plan on company phone is very limited and extremely expensive if exceeded. - Long term plans indicate that the internal helpdesk in 1-2 years will almost exclusively be doing catch and dispatch.
