Pros

Employee Stock Option Plan, decent benefits

Cons

If you can enthusiastically admire the Emperor's new clothes, you may be fine here. Entitled executives want admiration and gratitude from the troops, so stifle your honest feedback (believe the “open door” rhetoric at your peril). The company used to be quite flat in structure: over the past 5 years, the number of superfluous execs has ballooned, while more work has been heaped on the underwriting staff. Depending on the region, there may be little technical proficiency at the management level; some short-sighted managers see process as a cheap substitute for underwriting acumen and experience. There’s a rush to automate as much as possible without proper vetting of the systems or the results. Underwriters are pressured to sell, but classes of business and product offerings are limited. Little effort is spent on developing underwriters, so if you want to grow in your career, plan to move on after 2 or 3 years. Lower than industry-average salaries and virtually non-existent bonuses have been justified for years by the ESOP program, but the value depends on company performance, so you are trading real salary dollars for an unknown future quantity.

Pros

1. Latest technologies 2 Benefits (medical, dental, vision, ESOP) 3. Pleasant weather

Cons

1. Poor management 2. Management spent lot of money on things they decide later they don't like 3. Managers from non insurance backgrounds who do not understand the system 4. Lot of understanding Gap between business and IT 5. Very poor BA support. They expect developers to gather requirements, develop and also test. 6. No quality QA. Most of the QA are old guys who are not capable enough of matching newer development changes. 7. Managers have their favorite employees who only gets good ratings, promotions and perks. 8. No respect to quality work. They need people only who can show off and be nice to management. 9. Lot of politics. 10. Company is in loss for last few years. 11. Management wants you to learn and master everything which is impossible.

Pros

Good benefits, good environment, good pay, good direction. My boss is really supportive and does not micro-manage the employees. Everyone that works here is competent and helpful. Received flowers from the company when my child was born and another when my father-in-law died. Soft hours between 7-9am. Also, we are given 10% time to learn anything we want that may benefit the company in someway. This helps those of us working on older systems to grow in our field.

Cons

Currently transitioning between old software to newer technologies. Maintaining the older proprietary software is the primary responsibilities for some of us, which does not promote future success for the employee.
