Pros

Capital One has great overall benefits--Flex Spending, PTO, 401 k match, etc. The company is performance based, so metrics are very important and key to you being able to earn more money through salary increases, monthly/annual bonuses, and promotions. You work hard and smart -it pays. Capital One cares a great deal about it's associates. A lot of emphasis is focused on associate engagement. I could go on and on about how wonderful it was working for this company.

Cons

In my case, the biggest con would be the Year End Appraisal process. Depending on the business group you work in, you are stack ranked based on your job level with people with different job functions that may not have anything to do with what you do, For example people manager vs process manager vs operations analyst. There is a rigorous calibration process across different sites/locations to determine what your Year End Appraisal will be. Which is unfair as many of the decision makers may not know you or know what you do as they are a in a different business unit. It's left up to your manager to convince them how great you are.

Pros

Amazing team of talented people, culture that makes you feel empowered and trusted, solid benefit package, always had the support from my managers

Cons

Montreal office: limited vertical opportunities coming from a typically flat call center reporting structure, though much efforts are deployed to improved that aspect.

Pros

Really rewards exceptional associates, extremely smart and driven associates, and work/life balance among the best

Cons

lots of change, laying off 10-15% of associates in lines of business every 2-3 years. This works well because they do great severance but you must be able to handle change. Commitment to diversity in general has not led to diverse executives
