Pros

Pay and benefits and nothing else

Cons

Management is about favoritism. Lot of the folks have been there for many years and it's like high school. New employees have a hard time fitting in. In the recent layoff, they fired people in maternity leave and people who have been associates for 15, 20 years. No employee loyalty. You are better off getting a job elsewhere. Don't believe their lies

Pros

Company is good to technology and software engineering employees and good for benefits. Company values are good, just not in TA.

Cons

Tech TA isn't treated well at all. Many broken systems and bad management. Everything revolves around an old school brown nose, popularity contest type of culture. A lot of create your own value by making up pointless meetings and "omg that's amazing" type of responses to managements every word. Metrics are "rank and yank" bell-curve style not based on actual numbers. Scheduling is bad, and you will become a sourcer not a true inhouse recruiter here.

Pros

- Pay & benefits are good. 401k is one of the best around. - Smart and talented coworkers - Free snacks and coffee - Opportunity to work on some really cool AWS cloud projects. - Lots of holidays and PTO

Cons

Capital One is very hierarchical and is a culture of management and meetings. As a developer, I've had 4 managers in my two years here. I've had quite a few engineering jobs, and this was by far the worst managed tech culture I've ever seen. Lots of managers who can't deal with challenge and would rather remove the people with big ideas and replace them with sycophants. This opportunity is best for managers and junior developers because they give juniors tasks that are way above their experience level, much to the frustration of senior engineers. They are having problems keeping senior developers around because promotions are very hard to come by and the opinions of senior talent is not respected. Chest puffing is more valued than actual work. Ultimately, you have to enjoy working in a corporate environment. By that I mean, you have to know when to open and close your mouth and know what words to say. If you are competent and can play the political game, you will do very well here. If you are here to actually care about your work, then I would look elsewhere.
