Pros

you could work here for the rest of your life

Cons

This place is absolute garbage. The culture is unbelievably toxic - people stopped addressing me in the 3rd person and just started addressing me in the 2nd person, e.g., "You will work 22 hours tomorrow" or "you will work 14 hours every saturday for the next 6 months, with no possiblity of vacation". The work life balance is non existent to say the least. I was promised I would be a software engineer and get to do what I love, but instead I'm just a janitor to work through these terrible internal processes and tools that are poorly defined and don't work 90% of the time. Literally everything I'm told to do is high priority fire drills that need to be resolved yesterday. This has been a complete waste of my life and is nothing but a red mark on my resume. I'm getting a raise with my next job, and cap 1 is even taking back my sign on bonus, so monetarily there's no reason to work here.

Pros

1. Good Work life balance 2. Good Pay 3. Benefits 4. Perks 5. Good Teams 6. Good learning opportunities - sometimes you will be without any work for few months altogether, that gives you ample time to skill up, though there will be no opportunities to work on what you learn

Cons

1. Constant Re-Orgs 2. Lack of clear direction from leadership 3. People with technical skills are not rewarded, people with social skills skyrocket in their career 4. Lack of good technical intents, be prepared to sit idle most of the time until leadership tries to get intent (am a java dev, but last year i did manual testing for most part and 0 API or microservice work) 5. Layoffs here and there, and no clear career path direction (all API teams were converted to mobile teams in chicago downtown, by teaching android and IOS development - you have 6 years of technical experience in one area, so what?? start from 0 now) 6. Poor performance management - criteria for this changes every year - if you can speak well and show off others work as yours - this is the best place to be.

Tons of discrimination - Namely Age Discrimination

Pros

Zero! There aren’t any good things about this problem.

Cons

They cycle through people and don’t like older workforce. They only want young young people working for them. Have two friends who were also downsize due to age. There’s laws against age discrimination but because they do this such a clandestine way (even though we all know they do it) the government never gets a complaint.
