Great coworkers, poor career prospects

Pros

The Cappex team is truly wonderful - friendly, passionate, get-it-done people who are fantastic at what they do but yet don't take themselves too seriously. You will get to collaborate with folks across the company and have a hand in creating a really cool product.

Cons

Pay and benefits are subpar and opportunities for advancement are limited. Management solicits employee ideas and some are acted on, but there is also a major lack of transparency. There's a lot of emphasis on start-uppy benefits (free snacks, jeans, etc.), but actual benefits are lackluster - few sick/vacation days and no 401(k), at least when I worked there.

Pros

Great office space and amazing colleagues who will become your friends.

Cons

Dry, stiff culture that could be more but is being held back by senior management. The pay is sub-par and seems to not have been increased since the recession.

Pros

The only pro I can think of for Cappex is that they have some great employees and they are in a good location.

Cons

My main concern with Cappex was the managements lack of knowledge and experience in all aspects of the business. This is reflected in the companies performance. Benefits are terrible. You are given 15 days PTO with no differentiation of sick days, personal days, or vacation days. People came into the office sick very frequently. The salaries are not competitive for comparable sales jobs in Chicago. The environment at Cappex is hard to work in because so many employees are unhappy. There are many companies that truly value the employees. Cappex is not one of those companies. They try to act like a fun tech startup but really they are a mediocre company with mediocre products.

Thank you for your feedback. As of January 2015 we have made improvements to our PTO policy allowing for a bucket of vacation time (15 days for new hires) and an additional bucket of sick time. We are currently looking into the other concerns you’ve raised and appreciate your honesty in providing this critical feedback.
