I worked in multiple departments throughout my time at CarMax. My coworkers were always pleasant and hardworking. Had a lot of fun there. Where I found issue was upper management. Throughout my time at KMX, the office politics regularly got in the way of making sound decisions. Sometimes that wasn't a big deal, but sometimes it meant standing up a leg of the business on incredibly shaky foundations. I also found the weird tip-toeing around salary discussions uncomfortable. No one was willing to have an honest discussion about it. I only found out after grabbing a drink with my boss after quitting, that all management in my last department was directed to only offer the minimum salary and refuse to negotiate. That VP was all numbers and no people skills. A shame too. I would have loved to stay there, but my salary just wasn't keeping up with the cost of living, and was well below market rate for my skill set
