Pros

None! And their is Nothing good to say. Some stores have bad management and working there would be a nightmare. Try talking with some of the employees before taking the leap.

Cons

Long hours, low pay, bad management. Working outdoors in the elements either roasting or freezing. Never getting any positive feedback but always getting negative feedback. They are stat happy and run reports every day by the forestful. Slow economy and dwindling sales means you better want to work every single day and make your quota if you want to hang onto your job. No haggle doesn't mean no pressure. You are expected to sell every customer coming through the door and heaven help you if you don't.

Pros

The best reason to work for Carmax is that if you are tired of lying to and stabbing customers in the back, pretending that you are going to talk to a manager when you are not, being ripped off by your sales managers and finance managers, and so on.; then you will enjoy the no haggle, no hassle approach of Carmax. Carmax considers itself a low pressure sales environment, as opposed to no pressure or high pressure. You will pay a price however in that Carmax sales consultants earn far less money than their counterparts at the traditional car dealerships.

Cons

Sales consultants are paid a flat commission which has not risen in over ten years. At $150 per car, imagine how many cars a salesperson would have to sell month in and month out to support a family. Turnover is continuous. Also, advancement is virtually non-existent. Carmax hires and promotes friends for upper management positions. Some sales managers have been waiting for years to be promoted while others who have never sold cars before are immediately thrown into assistant store manager and location general manager positions. The benefits, which were too expensive and too limited to begin with, are now being slashed as sales drop dramatically under the current ecomomic downturn.

Pros

A great place to work, I hope I can continue on for a long time. I really like the culture at Carmax. I appreciate the compensation and value the training. I have enormous faith in Carmax. I enjoy working with my coworkers and supervisors and feel valued at work. I also value my coworkers. I love my job.

Cons

Worried about job stability. With the present day market I am fearful of the stability of my job, others are as well. Other than that there are really no downsides to working at Carmax. IT is a great place to work. There are many challenges and many opportunities.
