Cross functional managers are given an impossible and unrealistic workload. The stress is unbearable. There is never a moment to take a breath. You are expected to be a sales manager, service manager, inventory manager, business office manager, finance manager, accountant and much more. You are told to constantly be on the sales floor making that the priority, but then you have all of the other responsibilities that have to get done each day. CarMax puts all of its efforts into “associate care and connection” so it can continue to be seen as a fortune best place to work. That’s great I love my associates but managers are made to suffer with no consideration. The associates take an associate voice survey a few times a year and if a mangers team scores them low even if the comments are about things that managers can’t control like pay (corporate controls the pay) mangers are punished, shamed, penalized etc. You get a salary which isn’t worth it for the minimum of 10 hours a day you work. Despite this I still love this company I remember when ALL employees were treated fairly and cared for. I am just hoping to see it get back to that.
