Pros

Some of the most wonderful people I've ever met and still stay in touch with and hope to be friends with for a long time. Carbon was a breath of fresh air in culture and work-life balance. Really interesting technology.

Cons

Unfortunately, the fresh air couldn't last. It's hard to leave this review because I'm thankful for the opportunity and the technology has such great potential. However, that potential is marred by the lack of effective problem solving and teamwork. By the time I left, I felt like no one was looking out for each other anymore. The technical approach is applying bandaids, not creating real long term solutions. Favoritism is rampant. Leadership doesn't like you? Too bad, don't expect to be heard/respected/promoted. Want actual useful feedback? Too bad, no one cares and HR is too overloaded/out of touch to enforce real processes. The long term people either don't trust anyone else or only go to the same 5 people to solve all the company's problems, even when they just hired people with actual experience with the problem.

Pros

-Dogs! -The founder and his family are amazing. I was very proud to work for Joe and to help make his vision for Carbon come alive. It honestly hurts me to leave a negative review for Carbon because I love the people who run the company, but it's simply not ethical to let my situation go unreported.

Cons

I believe the leadership team would be extremely disappointed to know how some managers are treating the employees. My managers prioritized how they'd be perceived over doing the right thing in major ways that resulted in me leaving, and others to follow. Specifically, these managers got rid of people who reported thorny issues that they did not want to deal with because it would have signaled big and embarrassing problems on their team to people above them. Their lack of class in my departure and that of at least one other colleague was despicable. It's amazing that HR not only let this happen, but assisted with it. Don't work for this team if you want to feel comfortable reporting fireable offenses you witness without retribution. Basic respect is lacking from the management on this team in particular, and nasty people are rewarded simply because it is easier to get rid of the ones reporting the problems.

Great Company to work AT... but not FOR

Pros

Having an impact on some truly amazing hardware and being able to use it. Higher up people are treated well and the lower employees are somewhat included.

Cons

Poor communication, extremely low expectations of workers, no chance of growth, not praised or rewarded for exceptional work, problems tend to be ignored or not solved effectively. People seem to be hired based more on their resume rather than personality and practical skills.
