They Don't Value People

Pros

There are a lot of opportunities to move up. If you're a good employee, Cardinal will see that and offer promotion after promotion. There is paid parental leave for anyone that adopts or recently has a child. The CEO seems to genuinely care about his company and the employees, but he doesn't know what's happening on the onsite level.

Cons

It's an incredibly stressful work environment. One of their "core values" that they drill into you is "Do more with less." This means fewer employees with lower pay are asked to do more on the job. Work/life balance is hard to maintain. Your managers and their managers all work from home outside of office hours. Salary employees never stop working. Someone cries in the office at least once a week due to the high demand. I'm constantly given new tasks, reports, and audits on top of my already busy schedule. Half the time when I reach out to a supervisor for clarification, they don't respond. I don't blame them since their plate is just as full as mine. They don't have time to train you. It's a sink or swim environment. Either you figure it out and make an educated guess, or you fail and get written up for not doing so. Thankfully, I have experience from other management companies to know what to do, but I feel terrible for anyone that's new to property management and are joining Cardinal. The communication is lacking overall. One of my biggest complaints is going to be a lack of compassion towards our residents. Some of the fees are outrageous, and policy changes always negatively affect them. We're told to not communicate to the residents about the changes that will happen in the next lease term because we'd rather have them sign first and be bound to their contract. We only do what is legal. Past that, we do what we can to get more money. We had a management takeover and our residents are being faced with new charges constantly. I don't want to get into specifics to reveal my property, but it's sad what we're asked to do for the benefit of more profit. It's been on my conscience, and I'm looking for a new job.

It's incredibly difficult to hear when someone feels so pressured that they consider leaving Cardinal altogether. I completely understand and can empathize with your experience. After 20 years in the business, I know how each day can feel more overwhelming than the next. We're going to do our best here to take your thoughts and genuine insight and make them actionable. While I hope the best for you, I ask that you keep an eye on us to see if we've been able to live up to some of your expectations moving forward.

-Working in a nice office space and meeting new people along with leasing apartments -Creative

Cons

-Hiring of young people who are NOT ready and able to handle a high volume office setting, many of whom have never worked in the real world. -High turn over from employees and willing to fire anyone for no valid reason -Loyalty = Non existent. Pros

Strong senior leadership team that really believes in providing up and coming leaders with the resources to grow and develop their careers. Despite accelerated growth, the company has maintained the culture the company was founded on and continues to prioritize individuals. There's a tremendous amount of investment from the top in making this a great place to work. It's a fun, collaborative workplace and the company has preserved this relaxed environment even as it's grown.

Cons

If you're looking for a "plug and play" job where there's a rigid structure then this might not be the best place for you. You'll have to take ownership of your responsibilities and also invest in your own leadership development. You will receive a ton of feedback on where to improve and are expected to turn that feedback into action. It's not enough to check the boxes and accrue tenure to get promoted - which is also a "pro" and a reason a lot of people choose to build careers at Cardinal. There have also been a few times the company has stumbled and made mistakes due to the rapid growth but there's good awareness around these events and how to mitigate going forward.

Your message speaks to the strength of Cardinal at it's core. Each team member joined Cardinal to add their talents and personalities to the culture and the culture is set up to give right back.No one here expects to just sit back and let tenure lift them to new heights, they bring their best each day and make a meaningful career for themselves. Glad to have you on the team.
