Pros

Cargill is a top company with some great strength in the area of Maintenance and Reliability. Innovation is key and yet the manufacturing sector isn't encouraged to participate.

Cons

Some of the leaders at their manufacturing plants run the plant with the "Good Old Boy" network taking precedence over the results and talents of the employees and managers whom they are responsible for leading.

Pros

The people at Cargill are great to work with. People are very vested in their jobs and will go above and beyond to ensure that whatever they work on is successful. Those that don't have this mentality don't last long at the company. The company continues to perform strongly in touch economic times and senior leadership will cut expenses in all places possible before resorting to layoffs.

Cons

The downside is that it's such a large company, it's hard to feel like you're actually contributing to the company's success. It's hard to advance rapidly in the company unless you either put in years to climb the ladder. If you want rapid advancment, then you have to leave and come back into the company. If stability is what you're looking for, it's a great company. If you want to be challenged and are looking for rapid advancement, it's probably not the best company.

Pros

Very balanced portfolio of business provides insulation from economic downturns. Complex business units offer great chances to learn strategy. Global scale offers opportunity to move abroad.

Cons

Very old school culture combined with private ownership can present tremendous challenges to experienced hires coming in from the outside. I have watched many struggle to navigate the culture because they did not have the benefit of being hired straight out of college like I did. Pay is very poor when compared to other large organizations but leaving is tough when this is all you know. Very political environment although many will tell you that is not the case. Seniority is valued over results. Tendency to overcompensate on reaching consensus in decision making.
