Effective communication, but favoritism and lack of training hurt

Pros

Carley typically communicates effectively between the various levels of employees.

Cons

Carley was a great place to work until the current administration. With a lack of competitively awarded contracts, work just disappeared, and it didn't seem to matter whether you were a great employee when the work dried up; they kept only their favorites (regardless of skill level). There also wasn't much investment in training despite the creation of Carley University.

Pros

Get to get your foot in the door as an instructional designer and become familiar with government contracting work. Very nice people Very well organized, one of the best QA systems in the industry.

Cons

Dependent on government contracts, which are in flux at the moment due to poor administration. Remote work can be isolating. About once twice a quarter, you will need to stay late or work late to meet a deadline.

Pros

This company is a great place to start. The pay was not truly competitive, but the atmosphere was overall healthy and encouraged a work-life balance so the cost-benefit worked for me. The management team is well structured and there is little to no drama (the kind that happens in a hierarchy normally) that I experienced. Everyone generally gets along and does their work. I learned a lot working here and would recommend it to anyone looking for work experience.

Cons

There did seem to be some movement towards unhealthy practices near the end of my time there that I hope was just the growing pains of changes. There was a lot more "we need to find efficiencies" and "how can we use AI" that seems to be dominating company culture these days, but I hope that was a brief fad and not a turn towards a way of life.
