Pros

Great Pay. Decent benefits. 1950's style work environment for production workers. Laid back production work in many of the departments.

Cons

Cartech is much too focused on their stock price than anything else. More than safety. More than quality. If Cartech's premium products are in a relatively low competition environment, then why court the stock market? Wouldn't the product sell itself? Wouldn't the brand sell itself? People will come regardless. Currently the company is being run by a bunch of ice-cold, heartless, number crunchers. Many employees have left the company because of ill-treatment. The company is also being managed poorly by middle management. Training is being cut in half, or more. Hundreds of experienced workers with 20-30 years experience have left in the past 2 years and management doesn't care about the loss of experience. Why? You guessed it, they're saving money. Then there's safety. Safety only matters after men get hurt, then the company reacts. Very minimal proactive safety programs. Lastly, there's overworked employees. As a result of being overworked, and working 7 days a week, many of the employees are divorced. This has been a problem for years. Is there really no other alternative to working 7 days a week? If upper management really cares about employees, they wouldn't treat them like a hot pile of crap.

Pros

Good company name to work for and good pay.

Cons

Catty and inappropriate gossip between managers. Managers constantly talking down and behind other employees backs.

Pros

Excellent money and interesting work, great coworkers in production and maintenance. Benefits are ok. Safety is a priority. Apply yourself and you can advance pretty quickly depending on which department you are in. Personally I found the work fulfilling over the years and came to actually enjoy doing it. Been here for well over 20 years and we've made great strides as far as production work is concerned.

Cons

Like most other reviews, management is absolutely horrible. I know it's cliche to say that but that's the way it is. Executive management is clueless of the steel business and has been getting worse over the years. All executives that moved up through the business ranks are gone. The us and them atmosphere is thick and getting thicker. Loyalty to the workers is long gone. It shows up best since they moved the main offices from Reading to the suburbs and now to Philadelphia. Back in the day it was common to see the CEO walk through the mill. I haven't seen or met one since 2002 and we've had 3 or 4 new CEO's since then. Middle management is an absolute joke at best. To be in those positions and know as little as they do, is a crime. Like most other reviews, it's who you know. But like I said, the work is great but only if you can put up with the garbage from above and it's abundant. Obviously I'm on here looking to move on to something else. Sadly, I was never intending it to be that way. It's still hard and a shame to bash a company you came to enjoy working for over all of these years.
