Staff Accountant - NC offices

Pros

Experience in both tax and audit engagements. "stepping stone" firm that someone may use to gain experience in the field, find out which side of accounting is preferred, then move on to another firm

Cons

Career opportunities are limited for staff fresh out of school. In major need of senior and upper management staff. Poor pay scale - Just look at the salaries on this site; As of right now, Staff Accountants firm-wide are 9% below the national average, and if you are in NC then I can confirm first-hand that you are well below even that amount (close to 30% below the national average depending on the location of the office within the state). Partners do not get along with each other. The morale of the NC offices is not good - we have had more employees leave in the last year than we've ever had, including long-time employees. No tax-season performance bonus, no Christmas bonus, no OT for "professional staff" so basically you will work 60-70 hours a week during tax season (probably more depending on the office) but you will not see a dime extra for your hard work. There does not seem to be any movement by the firm to begin paying its current NC employees even what the firm average is. Heaven forbid you have to input a business expense such as travel mileage or a hotel room, you will not see that money returned to you for another month, occasionally longer. Current upper management seems to be focused solely on the acquisition of new firms in an effort to increase CRI's total revenue for the year so that they rank higher amongst the Top 50 firms.
