Pros

•Regulars recognize each employee’s work •Granted a little room for creativity with frosting coloring and sprinkles •Fun coworkers/customers •Being the reason that someone is smiling/making someone’s day •Food and pop always available (doubles as a con) •I’ve become more patient and humble due to all the bull I’m forced to deal with

Cons

• Not a very accommodating position/company for those with mental or physical illnesses on the more severe end (depression, anxiety, narcolepsy, fibromyalgia, etc.) • 1st and 2nd shift have many employees while there are very few 3rd shifters •expected to learn all the 3rd shift stuff as well as food and pizzas and register within 4 days •forced to take verbal abuse from customers •Smokers get more breaks •only 2 3rd shifters per shift a night while each shift has at least 3 people • 3rd shift is last to find anything out •3rd shift always blamed •Not as slow as people think it is. Sometimes you might not get your job done until close to end of shift or not at all. Had to start taking extra precautions just to prove to my manager I wasn’t lying •we are a 24 hour gas station. We barely have time to clean and basically maintain the messiness. Also we practically have to beg to have things fixed. •there are practically no raises or promotions. 3rd shift does get an extra dollar. But a newbie shouldn’t be making more than a person who’s been there for 7 years. The manager (not all) is practically a tyrant. •I’ve had the flu and still had to work because there’s no such thing as replacements on this shift •Hours have been cut and everyone gets yelled at for leaving late and the manager is the only who leaves on time •I literally have to remember 6 or 7 specific donuts with specific frosting or the customers will throw a fit •managers come in after you at 6 am •store manager is spoiled and doesn’t know how to do anything completely on her own •always running out of supplies and food •no one has time to completely finish their job and that has caused tension between shifts •Casey’s is a chain and doesn’t leave much room for fun/creativity such as a strict uniform policy, no decorations, no rearranging things •when it IS slow it’s super quiet. Too quiet. You’re not allowed to listen to music or anything. At this point you’ll begin to start forming mild ptsd and start hearing things like the door chiming or the phone ringing •really quiet door chime •really idiotic rules. Pizza boxes apparently expire in 24 hours. Not allowed to write our own temporary signs in example our pin pads don’t have a chip reader and every customer would ask or stick their card in. So i put a note and when the manager saw she immediately ripped it down and said “we can’t do that.” Empty cups are apparently 15¢. We can’t put our brooms in a certain corner cause it’s “unprofessional” •no such thing as part time. Everyone is scheduled as part time with full time hours. They get away with it by scheduling it so it’s split in half between weeks in a pay period. So in example you’re a part timer but you’re somehow scheduled 8 days in a row (actually happens.) on the first week of the pay period you’ll be working 4 days and then on the second you’ll be working for but it’s still 8 days. Low pay, high turnover

Pros

Basic benefits (e.g. medical insurance for part time employees). Flexible hours. 50% off food prepared in the kitchen provided you are on the clock (i.e. no "discount card"; it must be consumed at work to be eligible for a discount). Time off is easy to come by provided the store is properly staffed.

Cons

Low pay (starting pay is $11 per hour. Good luck supporting yourself let alone a family on $11 an hour for 40 hours per week even with government assistance). High turnover, so you'll be on call 24/7. Assistant managers make about $0.50 extra and are expected to cover shifts (as are other shift workers) on the drop of a hat (e.g. working an overnight or closing shift and being expected to arrive at 3:00 AM to make donuts.) Store managers make about 52k per year plus meager bonuses and work more than 40 hours per week. Corporate policies are increasingly inflexible and absurd, making it harder for store managers and staff to succeed. Employees must find their own replacements (what are managers for then?) despite not having access to the schedules and phone numbers of other employees. No profit sharing or performance based pay (e.g. earnings from lottery tickets sold at your store go to corporate, multi-million dollar stores pay their employees the base rate of $11 per hour. Doesn't matter how hard you work, you won't see another dime in your paycheck, and this company will demand increased productivity with no material incentive.) Breaks are nigh impossible to come by. Good luck using the restroom when you're the only person on register for over six hours and very few employees are cross-trained. Upper management (regional and corporate) oscillate between rudeness and indifference because they are bootlickers of the highest order. Management has an "open door" policy in theory, yet in practice is like speaking to a rock in part because their hands are tied by corporate's top-down, asinine policy decisions. Delivery drivers are expected to have their own vehicles and insurance. $2 delivery fees and tips do not cover gas, maintenance, vehicle depreciation, nor insurance (particularly if one properly reports to their insurer that their vehicle is being used for deliveries, which will increase your insurance rate significantly, and if one properly reports their tips come tax time.)

Pros

Nice desk job. Okay starting pay. Nice benefits.

Cons

Gender bias in the office. Male employees under valued. Shared desks. Little regard or respect from management. Long-time employees suddenly getting a pay "raise" that matched their pay with the new hires with no regard or adjustment for years of service. Little/no proper training. Socially toxic work environment on certain shifts (meaning a lot of people do not get along/communicate/cooperate.) Backbiting and general unpleasantness at an all time high. Management response it to do as little as possible and sweep everything under the rug. Forget advancement. Forget raises that actually matter. Forget having your own desk. Forget being there long.
