Pros
Some of the colleagues are good, moraled individuals. However, hard to attribute their goodness to a bad company.
Cons
This company is entirely dysfunctional. I've been in meetings where the agenda isn't covered, and everyone only discusses how to deal with the verbal abuse and intimidation at the hand of the company president, the CIO, or whoever may be the flavor of the month as the I.T. manager. This dysfunction trickles down in bizarre ways where people snap or react strangely because they know they need to conform to an old, angry, ignorant man's fantasy of what work was like in the 50s. Everyone keeps their heads down, accepts as little responsibility as is plausible, and will resist being helpful. Because of this, projects regularly require FAR more hours than is normal in the industry. The likelihood of being verbally assaulted is high. Some even on their first day if you make the mistake of being near the president. You will work with people that are constantly on edge. Policies will constantly change to try to rob you of your pay. All employees only get 40 hours of pto per year to use on both vacation and sick days (this is part of the bizarre 50s fantasy). This does change marginally over years, but only very marginally; it takes many years to match industry pto standards, a fact conveniently and strategically omitted from the interview and onboarding process. There are NO raises. There is NO annual appraisal process. You will be hourly. You will be expected to hit deadlines that are functionally impossible. Over time was historically available, but is in the process of being eliminated. And so, to hit the aforementioned deadlines you will be expected to work hours on your own time. This, of course, isn't expressed, but given the ultimatum to hit the stern deadlines, and no over time, you will be put in the position to either behave against your and the company's best interests, or work more off hours and lie about it so as to protect your employment. Turnover is incredibly high, and so you will need to either tolerate or accommodate this. Part of the lived fantasy is that "boss knows best", especially when he doesn't. This means that projects get terminated before they're done because he *thinks* they're done. The most essential (maintenance, anyone?), yet nuanced or technical work is never authorized, and so must be done in secrecy or else when something inevitably breaks, it's hell to pay. Do yourself a favor, and let this company die through a total lack of people willing to subject themselves to this nonsensical , abusive, genuinely idiotic form of management.
