Pros

My supervisor was outstanding to work with, sadly she could not take Catapult any longer and left at the same time as I did.

Cons

The purposely will schedule teachers just short of fulltime hours in order to avoid offering benefits, I worked for the company for several years and never received a pay increase. Everything is about numbers, with very little consideration for actual learning.

Pros

Need a break as a classroom teacher? This is a teaching position where you are placed in a private school as a reading or math intervention teacher. You are just responsible for taking small groups for intervention work. They provide a proprietary intervention curriculum. You can incorporate your own teaching ideas. No work to bring home! Great if you have young children and can't do any traditional teacher work at home.

Cons

You are only paid by the hour. If your school has a break you don't get paid. You get sick time and PTO but it is not enough to cover all of the days off during the school year. You are not paid over the summer and need to apply for unemployment. Your classroom may be in a trailer. The intervention program only works for children who are one grade level below and need only a little bit of help. This will be only a few of your students. You have no other intervention programs available to work with students with other learning disabilities or issues. The program is best suited for K-4 students but goes to 8th grade. The benefits are expensive. The company is disorganized and seems disconnected from modern teaching practices.

Chief Human Resources officer needs to go

Pros

collaborative leadership, opportunities to share expertise, opportunities to make a difference in the lives of students with disabilities, dedicated staff

Cons

Primarily - Chief Human Resources officer is egotistical and overtly disrespectful towards individuals who challenge or disagree with different things. Micro-aggressive and fragile, this individual uses her platform to shut down instead of encourage, fuel discomfort with a lack of listening to understand from the perspectives of people who have lived discrimination, and has an inflated sense of self. That being said, any employee will have a pleasant experience with anyone else than Valerie Mogavero, and there are some stellar leaders on the team despite her negativity. Dr. Diane Meyers, Celeste Chapman, and Dr. Ellen Gaske are all examples of phenomenal champions of leadership and inclusion where Valerie Mogavero is NOT. Secondarily - life/work balance, pay for the nature of the work, exposure to trauma - firsthand and vicarious, lack of sustainable support, lack of clear understanding/empathy from executive leadership of what staff at the school level experience and what supports they need to lessen attrition.
