Pros

working with small groups and helping at-risk students gain confidence and skills

Cons

little autonomy with regard to teaching style, pressure for students to do well on standardized testing, tons of paperwork, suffocating supervision, lack of appreciation, low salary with consideration of years of experience, outdated texts and teaching materials, 80% of energy spent on lesson planning

Pros

Work from home one day per week.

Cons

Very high turnover among supervisors and teachers. There has been a revolving door of 4 different supervisors within the past year. Upper management cannot seem to keep anyone due to the low pay, extremely heavy workload, and heavy driving all around the city. Training is disorganized and needs a lot of work. Teachers leave training feeling more overwhelmed and lost then before. There is very little guidance, lack of materials provided, and little to no support to fulfill the unrealistically high expectations set by management. Too much work, too many schools assigned per supervisor, and too much driving is involved. More time is spent in traffic commuting to school sites than the actual completion of work. Teachers are expected to perform miracles using outdated curriculum that does not sufficiently fill in the academic gaps. Lastly, be prepared to put a lot of wear and tear on your car due to the amount of driving required.

Pros

Flexible schedule, working with students, can be fun. You can make strong connections through this job. If you just go in and do your job every day and don't get stressed about "what's demanded" then you are fine.

Cons

Houston team in particular is unorganized and all over the place. Our staff training is somewhat fun but useless. The paperwork load is obscene and it's you never get straight answers on what the actual process is. Everything changes all the time so get ready for a ride, not for someone who can't stand to have things in their place.
