Mid career engineering hire

Pros

Great place to be in product support or technical marketing , esp. If you like travel and moving around the world. Truly global. Still building most the US bound product in the US.

Cons

Continuously trying to off shore the engineering even when there isn't a good business case. Over reliance on metrics and bureaucratic processes. Too many pockets with too many people without much to do while other areas overloaded.

Pros

Bonuses though I never saw one due to the recession, cool products, exposure to big industry. Caterpillar is a world presence and I am certain will continue to be. As long as there are things to build, Caterpillar will be there to provide the equipment.

Cons

At times it felt like I was a number. I spent most of the few years I was there as an engineer doing the same work that our off-and-on high school co-op was doing. I certainly did not feel like I was being challenged.
