Good opportunity to gain experience; little room for advancement

Pros

First, let me say that I work in the corporate sector, not in a clinical capacity. The company is so large that your experience largely depends on the structure of your department and your direct supervisor. I have had the opportunity to take on new responsibilities and gain new experiences and have been encouraged to increase my knowledge. My supervisor is generous in allowing me to take time off, as his way of recognizing my hard work. We get yearly cost-of-living raises.

Cons

In my department, there is ZERO opportunity for advancement. There is no guidance from our VP or from senior leadership. We are severely understaffed. We are expected to do more work each year with the same budget and without an increase in pay except for minimal cost-of-living raises. Hard work is not rewarded through promotions or pay increase. Senior management is not in tune with the real needs of patients. They'll throw around acronyms and talk about ACAs, without understanding that your everyday person doesn't know what these things mean or care. There is a perception that the general public cares about everything that Catholic Health does (they don't). Strategies are based on these misguided perceptions that are destined to fail. Management is old school and doesn't like to try new things.Things are done the way that they've always been done. As stated in other reviews, many staff members are lifers and have not continued their education. As a result, their skills and strategies are outdated. We must use PTO for holidays, such as Christmas and Thanksgiving. Our insurance just dropped coverage for spouses, so if your spouse has an opportunity to buy insurance through his/her employee, then he or she cannot be on your insurance plan.

Pros

Decent pay - still not comparable to Kaleida

Cons

Staff - self serving cliques. If you hated high school, then don't apply here. Staff steals from other staff. They are lazy, disrespectful, and have "entitlement " issues. They think that just because they have been there forever, they don't have to do their job - after all, they have the union to protect them - regardless of what they do.
