toxic culture

Pros

Really great coworkers. Pay seems fair. Until now, felt like a good stable public company (until recent layoffs!)

Cons

Culture has completely shifted to one of fear. The more they talk about being transparent, the less transparency we feel. Extremely toxic and hostile environment. Gender inequality is apparent.

Worst of both worlds

Pros

Some really nice colleagues and good benefits and perks.

Cons

The past 18 months have been a case study in questionable governance and leadership dysfunction. There has been a complete breakdown of trust and zero accountability. The executive team has undergone significant change and turnover (CEO, President, COO, EVPs of all three business lines, CHRO, CRO) with little transparency throughout. Hierarchies have become even more loyalty and proximity based instead of merit based. Senior management is myopic about certain things but unfocused when it comes to strategy and business drivers. On top of that, there is a significant level of complacency baked in many teams across the organization. Even through the recent cost cutting moves, high levels of complacency remain. Yet teams that actually execute for the business are not getting rewarded. Company performance is currently getting bailed out by the casino-ification of everything, and is not very reflective of decision making or execution. Would not recommend working here unless you thrive in corporate hierarchies where you’re not allowed to have an opinion unless you’re buddy buddy with certain management.

Cboe is Toxic

Business Outlook

Pros

Nothing, not a single thing.

Cons

The strongest reason to join this company is the people—if you can find the right ones. Genuine colleagues exist, and they often become the support system needed to navigate an environment marked by burnout, stress, and a toxic workplace culture. Unfortunately, professional growth appears to be driven less by performance and more by proximity. Promotions frequently feel tied to long-standing relationships with leadership rather than measurable contributions, leaving many high-performing employees questioning whether merit truly matters. The company continues to struggle with diversity and inclusion. Leadership remains largely homogeneous, and the lack of diverse perspectives can contribute to bias in decision-making and workplace dynamics. Several talented minority employees and leaders have already departed, and others continue to leave, raising concerns about retention and belonging. The culture itself is toxic. Boundaries are often tested, expectations can be relentless, and maintaining a healthy work-life balance requires constant vigilance. Employees who succeed here are often those who become skilled at navigating internal politics while fiercely protecting their own well-being. If you're considering joining, come prepared with strong boundaries, resilience, and the ability to advocate for yourself. Some people will make the journey worthwhile, but the environment will likely demand more from you than it ever should.
