Pros

They're investing a lot of money in their products. A lot of young, fun staff.

Cons

Part of Cengage Learning is becoming National Geographic Learning which they are evangelical about, yet they do not have the infrastructure or the expertise to make products suitable to carry the National Geographic brand. The company is sales driven, not quality driven. Sales and Marketing drives everything (a pro for those in Sales and Marketing, a con for those who understand development of quality products). Senior management is over-worked and makes knee jerk decisions which severely and negatively affect the work life of those lower down the scale. Lots of nasty office politics and backstabbing behind closed doors.

Pros

Flexible hours, good benefits/vacation package, people are great, lots of opportunity to learn and grow in your position. You will get a lot of work and will build up your resume.

Cons

Most everyone is very underpaid (with the exception of the top 10% of management, who make 4 and 5 times more than the hard working people who have been with the company for many years. Unnecessary travel, not enough support from management, very few options for advancement.

Pros

Excellent benefits. Good stepping stone and launch pad for younger professionals. Ability to experience how a spin-off functions when led primarily by consultants without management expertise or leadership ability.

Cons

Critical mass of underpaid women in the editorial ranks. Extremely political atmosphere where women who do a lot of male leaders' work are given titles and authority that they have neither earned or merit. Lots of double talk from top management.
