Pros

Working with disadvantaged/marginalized populations, feeling like I make a difference, freedom and flexibility in my work, constant opportunities to learn, many opportunities for advancement within the agency, management trusts employees and provides professional development. I feel like my superiors care about us.

Cons

Some clients can be challenging to work with if you don't have interpersonal, trauma-informed communication and de-escalation skills. Type of work makes linear, step-based training difficult. There can be unpredictability or crises depending on the work site. High-level leadership leaving the agency.

Pros

Great benefits-medical, dental, highest retirement matching I've seen anywhere, and also offers parking, mass transit, and childcare FSAs. Runs fairly smoothly for a non-profit. Most people work here because they really care about the clients.

Cons

Somewhat disorganized at times. I am definitely glad to be part of a union while working for this company as they have our back more than HR does. High turn-over rate at many sites, though that seems to be standard in the industry these days. Senior management can be a bit corporate and profit-driven, though most on-site management is great.
