      Pros

      Great benefits including global travel. Work with people around the world from different cultures. Time granted for volunteer work. Flexible work schedules.

      Cons

      Not all managers are progressive or open in dealing with people meaning that some are still command-control types that know how to manage up...and use fear and control to manage down. I hope this part of the "invisible culture" has changed in the few years since I left.

      Pros

      You work with the best and brightest people in their fields. Benefits and pay are excellent. The work is challenging rewarding, and exciting to be involved with a major company in developing their assets.

      Cons

      Layoffs are the downside to working in the oil and gas industry. If you make an error at the wrong time in the business cycle, you are expendable despite your accomplishments. I enjoyed having a lot of autonomy in performing my work, but when I needed advice from my supervisor during a management transition, no one was available.

      Pros

      If you are new to the workforce, Chevron has a great program to help develop you for your first 5 years. Good process oriented company.

      Cons

      Don't enter at mid-career and be prepared for periods of belt tightening based on oil prices (now is a very BAD time)
