So Many Opportunities and So Little Time

Pros

Chevron is a company that allows its employees to either focus on their speciality or to experiment in the many areas of the company. One can begin in the Upstream, veer towards the research end, spend some time in new business development, dabble in the downstream and return to the Upstream - where it all begins again.

Cons

While a few years ago there was a concerted push to put more women in management at senior levels, the past year has seen women pushed into service or support roles, or worse, as what has happened in the downstream, pushed aside all together.

You won't find a cleaner gas station!

Pros

This is one of the cleanest gas stations that I have ever been in. The customers are all locals and for the most part they are nice and watch out for you. The boss is very hands off, but he expects you to do your work. They pay better at Goldenrod Chevron than most stations.

Cons

The management is not considerate of third shifts duties and responsibilities. Management treats first and second shift employees better than the rest because he spends time with them. There is a lot of work to do because it is only a single owner station. There are only 4 employees at a time so there is no calling in sick. No benefits. No vacation pay. Lots of duties.

Unclear future

Pros

Great place to learn about the oil industry. If you're willing to take on assignments (without worrying about who gets credit for the work or the promotions) there are plenty of interesting assignments. Some of these assignments can take you to very interesting, exotic parts of the world.

Cons

Quality of co-workers can be all over the place. Strategy forward (at least in downstream) is unclear. Still a very white, male organization. It's very hard for women / minorities to get on the management career path.
