Pros

Most managers in the IT Department (IMS) don't know exactly what you are doing, so you have some control of your day-to-day interactions. If fact, some people can work from home one or two days/week, which is great.

Cons

Managers are vindictive. They don't communicate, and it seems that they derive pleasure from writing people up (it is called placing people on PIPs). Some joke that managers have a contest to see how many people they can do this to. My former manager would write someone up so that others would work harder (motivation by intimidation). She is good friends with senior leaders so she is not going anywhere but up. The worst part is that she would gossip about others in the area, thus destroying her team. more than 50% turnover in 6 months and people don't care.

Pros

Since the IT department is a bit behind the technological times, moderate competence places you in a good light. The IT department has recently moved from several locations to West Allis, WI, and the new space is nice. It is easier to paint walls and purchase nice furniture than to change culture.

Cons

This only pertains to the IT department: Their is a divide between management and technical experts. While there are a few IT managers with a great deal of IT knowledge, recent promotions have elevated managers with less technical or analytical prowess.

Pros

Doing great work for the kids we serve, which at the end of the day is why we're here. Opportunities to move around but get promoted.

Cons

Some hand-picked leads that develop egos, the ideas of many ideas at the table are frowned upon in favor of a few. Not listening to experience.
