Pros

Staff members are amazing and you can really see how the actual workforce for cmaa helps the community.

Cons

There is no real standard for how managers should behavior or treat staff. There is a lot of changes that need to happen and it starts with managers take more responsibility for programs/projects. The staff there are really sweet and you will make life long friends there but management is very disorganized and frankly makes the staff feel unappreciated. Almost nobody on top takes blame for their mistakes but only like two or three managers do.

Pros

Nice people Opportunity for you to explore different entry level work Overall understanding community Chance to help the Uptown/Chicago community

Cons

-Bad Work Culture -Management doesn't care about your work, feels like they want to cover their self (CYA) as opposed to trying to create actual change or progression, bad leadership, no chances to review manager's work or give opinions that will actually accumulate to anything. Some managers are just not equipped to deal with their jobs. -Terrible communication laterally and vertically. -Questionable Strategic Moves -Appearance of caring but not actually caring about staff opinion -Ignoring staff and other manager's advice -Handing out tasks, hearing solutions, then doing nothing about it -Overworking people then showing no appreciation -Lack of professional respect -Lot of processes need a review or change -If you took the job cause of an idealism for social justice or altruism, you're at the wrong place. You'll be questioning why you're still even working here. -If you came here thinking it would be different from other places, your're at the wrong place. Met one of the worst managers to date: Selfish, selfish, selfish and that's fair play if you can back it up but unfortunately, the manager had very poor skills as well. -Meh. Just meh.
