Pros

Teaching in class is very rewarding along with the variety of courses I teach. One of the best benefits of the job is summers mostly off. The department I am in is great to work with and collaborate on best ways to run classes or improve curriculum as industry changes.

Cons

Over that last few years leadership has declined resulting in a lot of tension. New policies have slowly degraded the effectiveness of programs and caused some of our best instructors to leave. Salary has stalled, and there is currently no clear process of what one needs to do in order to advance.

Pros

Competitive wages for either a 34-week contract of teaching or with summer school it is a 42-week contract. Very friendly staff and mostly motivated students. Helpful and fun wellness committee with benefits for doing activities. A lot of autonomy in classroom. Clean & new facilities. Up-to-date technology.

Cons

This may not be a con for everyone but I don't enjoy meetings. There aren't that many but there are 4 days of in-service throughout the school year (2 before each semester). Also, there are always reports to be done to the Higher Learning Commission you do as an individual and as a department. Professional Development dept makes your first few years very busy with required activities, classes, and meetings but they also provide a lot of support. Change is hard in a big ship. Mostly admin makes changes without consulting those affected and I don't feel listened to by them when giving suggestion; but I realize they can't accommodate every single person's needs.

Pros

A very uplifting environment. I was able to set my hours to fit my schedule. I was able to get to know instructors on a different level. I grew valuable organizing experience.

Cons

The pay is low. It was not career specific with my education. I cleaned some extremely smelly germ filled beakers and buckets.
