Pros

Constantly learning, surrounded by the world's leading art everyday, surrounded by fascinating, highly qualified, intelligent people. There is a high quality of work and standard of excellence. You will grow as a professional working here.

Cons

The new marketing management is toxic and treats exceptionally talented employees with a total lack of respect - even publicly screaming at them and insulting them. New management is changing the culture of kindness in the department.

Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that you had a bad experience within your team at Christie's, but that you felt senior management were brilliant. We are concerned that you mentioned a lack of respect and raised voices in public, all staff are required to do mandatory training regarding respect in the workplace, additionally our HR team have an open door policy and will always be there to listen to any concerns you may have. We are glad to hear you appreciate our expertise in our sector and the working standards and that Christie's has supported you in your professional career.

Pros

Exciting to be "in the action" during sales, and with specialists Can physically handle priceless art (on occasion) High level of independence Will push your level of organization and productivity to the MAX Work with some very intelligent people 25 vacation days after one full year Best auction house globally

Cons

Poor management "Old boys club" mentality, many are from affluent backgrounds, or are from families that are clients Barely any diversity No investment in non-management positions, hard to move past administration/coordination No transparency Extremely high learning curve without onboarding training Convoluted processes, nothing is streamlined No daily benefits (compensated transportation after working late, meal coverage when asked to work OT, company-wide team building)

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, we do appreciate all feedback and take your comments seriously. Christie’s strives to create a meritocratic culture, where people are recognised for their skills and ability and not for their connections. And we have a performance review process to help us assess employee contributions and award them appropriately. In terms of our diversity initiatives, we are a global company and it is our aim that our workforce reflects our global image. We are also extremely proud of our gender diversity and are working hard to ensure that our ethnic diversity is also reflective of broader society. Our Diversity and Inclusion Committee is committed to achieving this objective. In reference to your comments around investment and career progression, we have identified a need for more structure around career progression and are therefore creating a more robust career path framework. We do encourage promotions from within and expose our employees to various global opportunities. Christie’s have a great track record of this. Christie’s is unique and we believe that our employees primarily learn on the job. However, we have recently strengthened our L&D team globally and have launched a global L&D offering which covers multiple training opportunities. We are continually reviewing areas of improvement within the business. We recently rolled out a Culture Survey which was responded to by over 80% of our employees, globally. The survey highlighted multiple positive aspects of working life at Christie’s, but also showed some areas for improvement. We have set up focus groups and created action plans to try and continually enhance the environment we work in, including around how we communicate with each other and operational issues. We do appreciate your time in sharing your thoughts and will raise your concerns internally. Kindest regards, Christie’s HR Team

We are always happy to hear from our current employees! We are very sorry to hear from your experiences but we have recently spent a substantial amount of money on new IT Systems and beginning January 2018 we are rolling out a number of new training opportunities and methodologies for staff and managers. Thank you for your thoughts, Christie’s HR .
