Pros

Had independence, no micromanagement. Opportunity for experience in many different organizations, cities and states.

Cons

No respect for life/work balance. No loyalty to employees. No performance evaluation or recognition. Communication methods very weak. Really are treated just as a number in a big organization, no human contact. Frequently put out employees and believe that we owe them our life in return for a paycheck.

Pros

CIBER is well positioned in the market because the company's rates are lower than top tier consulting firms, but the scope of projects they handle is the same.

Cons

Very decentralized. Weak marketing, resulting in minimal presence in customers' and prospects' awareness. Significant variations in quality among the branches and practice groups. Some are world-class, some are a joke. Senior management only watches the dollars. Sees little reason to invest in sales, internal training.

At least the pay was good

Pros

The salary was nice, although after dividing it by all the unpaid overtime, it wasn't that special. There were some good people there, but they weren't supported by good management. There's still a lot of talent at the company, but I don't think it's being well developed, used or rewarded.

Cons

Managers "teased" (or outright insulted) team members in group meetings. Individual meetings with managers tended to start with the manager saying "I heard that you..." and following it with an accusation of wanting to leave the company. New ideas were met with hostility and actual, literal sneers. No training provided whatsoever beyond the bare minimum to meet legal requirements for handling certain documents or using the timecard system.
