Pros

They will hire for 40 hours a week which many other jobs in this category won't. If you can work the morning shifts the time can go quickly and you can get to create a rapport with the regular customers.

Cons

Abusive customers especially drunken patrons at night that can't handle that last call is 2 AM. Expected to upsell every customer and shake them down to contribute to the donation jar so that your district manager can win a vacation. Regular customers become irritated if they come in everyday, buy the same thing, and have to listen to a sales pitch every time. Upper management policy and store level reality are two separate worlds. Management wants you to keep hot dog rollers and hot sandwich dispensers full, and coffee pots full all night long. If you did these things you would waste so much inventory that the district manager would freak and demand to know why there is so much inventory loss.

Underpaid - Overworked

Pros

There is always work to do. In fact, CK non-officially requires each employee to do the scheduled work of 1.5 - 2 employees as a standard. They will offer lots of perks to "compensate" for all the other drawbacks and then unethically punish employees for exercising these perks too frequently, at the company's discretion on a case-by-case basis.

Cons

the company culture is toxic to store level employees. Low pay and poor working conditions, often alone drive employees to other jobs. Circle K has the highest number of open positions consistently across ALL of their major competitors by a factor of at least 5. At the corporate level, there is a silent practice of "see something, DO NOT say something," as reporting any type of unethical or ethically gray situation will likely lead to your termination as a whistle blower despite the company's whistle blowing policy.
