Pros

Since working for Cisco after graduating my growth has been tremendous. Cisco is a place where there are many experts you can learn from and gain experience especially if you're like me, someone out of school two years.

Cons

Promotions are slow and its difficult to get recognition. I am lucky in that my manager and I have a good working dialogue and I know he is listening to my concerns. If you're ambitious and damn good at your job, you'll start to feel frustrated often at Cisco. Reason being promotions are slow and those who are the lowest performers are rewarded by keeping their job and those who are worth their salt aren't promoted fast enough. Of course, I'm sure this is common with large companies. In my opinion, Cisco needs to recognize fresh talent quickly, give them (me) opportunities to grow and responsibilities, and promote them quickly.

Pros

Cisco is a well oiled machine. It has great support systems and if you like stability you will get on fine. If you are aggressive you will always have the opportunity to build a good niche and possibly a great team that will give you much satisfaction. But it won't be handed to you - you need to use your social networking skills to create the opportunity.

Cons

The sheer size makes if inefficient. If you come from the startup world that will wear on you after a while. One should stay at Cisco no more than 4 years in the same job. If you try and go external (to startups) you will be viewed as inflexible and some significant skepticism. This isn't always the case, but it is common to see people doing the same thing, getting stale and suddenly (maybe being pushed) to "see what is out there."

Pros

Huge organization, brand identification, its possible to stay in the firm for your whole career. Sales infrastructure is the best in the industry.

Cons

My team was expected to deliver at SVP levels - but we didn't get the resources to make it happen. Sales however - spent money left and right on travel, communication etc- where we were bound tight.
