Pros

The potential and scope of work is really massive because the company is so large and global. Internal mobility is relatively good.

Cons

It's a culture of bureaucracy and mediocrity where the path of least resistance is taken. This result is a patchwork of quick tactical fixes that unravel faster than it was put together. The overall quality of work is shockingly poor; despite small pockets of senior leaders who know what they are doing. Leaderships lacks subject matter knowledge and do not lean on subject matter experts to help make more informed decisions. Instead of the best ideas winning it becomes a political game of appeasing the most senior person in the room. Feedback goes nowhere really fast! There is a lot of change happening, which in itself is not a problem. However, the direction and execution leaves a lot to be desired.

Pros

The pay is good, and there are a ton of international opportunities.

Cons

-Absolute chaos. No processes or procedures, you build them as you go. If there are any, nobody really follows them. -It's a huge international bank so the areas outside North America act almost like a separate bank altogether. This makes it hard if you need something from someone overseas or especially if you're asking them to report metrics or something to you. You are just ignored and treated with consternation because you're viewed almost as working in a completely different company based in New York. Makes for a very uncollaborative environment. -The attitude of the people and the way they treat each other raises an eyebrow. People at Citi are abrasive. Never seen this much bickering and rude comments that colleagues throw at each other. It's like there's no interest in being a team player and people are not afraid to speak their mind and just literally act rude.

Poor Training

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

Diverse, global, good pay, hybrid

Cons

There is no training, you are expected to know how to do the job when you start. The managers are hired based on their knowledge, not the ability to coach, train, and build rapport and relationships with their team. It’s easy for favoritism to occur because your manager will likely not even be where you have to report in office 3x a week, so it’s hard to build relationships over zoom. It seems like everything is behind as far as the systems you do your work in. Even though management says to ask them for help, when you have reviews they talk about how this is an independent job and what you think of the level of interaction you had with them is. The annual bonus is very low and there are no other bonuses. If you aren’t rated a certain level for your review you can’t post out, you have to stay in your role for an entire additional year. People come and go like crazy… you’re considered “tenured” if you have been there a year or two.
