Pros

They sent me a free t-shirt once. I received a birthday card,...once. They changed the leave policy which assisted a lot of people with getting vacation time and sick time.

Cons

The pay sucks. I am college educated. I took this job because I was told by management that working on a government contract would get my foot in the door for a full time position with the federal government considering that I already have on the job experience. THIS NEVER HAPPENED. And the job requirement went from having some college education to having a GED. What a slap in the face? But enough about me. Let's talk about everyone for a moment. 1. As a contractor, we work with federal employees that get paid twice as us when we are doing the same job. They make sure you know what their pay grade is. You may not discuss your pay, but they rub it in your face. 2. Some of us travel from site to site weekly to complete the job. This travel IS NOT REIMBURSED. Some employees go through toll booths twice a day and are not reimbursed. We also are not reimbursed for parking at the federal buildings if you working in an area where you have to pay for parking. I understand that people may have to pay to get to work, the bus, etc, however driving your own car through tolls in major cities should be reimbursed because it's done as a part of the normal job but taken out of our pay. 3. The workload is atrocious. We are always backed up. Some of us do not get breaks because employees are constantly coming in. 4. Some of the federal employees give us the grunt work and while we are drowning, they are on Facebook, etc. It's hard watching this and you have to go to lunch an hour late. 5. Federal managers will throw you under the bus. I've seen it firsthand. You're not a federal employee and they remind you of it. So they do not have to make sure you're comfortable because you aren't a part of the union. 6. Not all Citizant contractors are experiencing this but most of us are and when it was brought up in a meeting, it was shut down and we had to swallow it. There is never an apology. 7. Did I mention that the pay sucks? How do you raise a family on this? And they promise us a bonus which is a third of a dollar per hour. People at McDonald's get dollar raises atleast. 8. Noone can afford the health insurance but you make a few dollars over the amount to qualify for Medicaid. 9. THE TURNOVER RATE IS CRAAAAAZZZZYYYY!!!!! We have no idea who the manager is or even our fellow coworkers because everyone is quitting. You can understand why. 10. If you wanted to move forward to become an analyst or something with better pay, there isn't training offered. 11. They do not have any empathy for employees that are not in corporate. If you're in another state, what you're going through does not matter.

First of all, thank you for taking time to share your concerns. Citizant’s leaders want every employee to be satisfied with their job and feel like their work lives up to their expectations. We try whenever possible to help employees advance their careers within the company – and as a private employer, Citizant has no control over whether you can obtain a Government job. And in certain situations, we wish we could offer some employees bigger salary increases than our federal contract rates will allow. But while you’re on the Citizant team, we encourage you to take advantage of our abundant training opportunities to prepare yourself for professional growth, like tuition reimbursement or Lynda.com, which we offer to all employees. Like almost every employer, Citizant does pay for travel expenses incurred on the job, but not for your commuting expenses. (We hope you know that among the great benefits we offer, you can use a Flexible Spending Account for commuting and parking expenses, which allows you to stretch your salary dollars farther.) It sounds like there are some workplace dynamics that your supervisor can almost certainly help you address. We encourage you to work through those issues proactively with your manager – all of our managers truly want to help in situations like this. And while some employees may have left your team recently, many of which are beyond the company’s control, Citizant’s overall employee retention is at an all-time high. Several new professionals have joined us recently in both manager and staff positions, and our customers and most of your fellow employees seem to be very pleased with the quality and stability of our teams.

Thanks for the positive comments. It certainly is a challenging time to work in government contracting. We still believe that if we hire smart people -- including former federal employees -- and help federal agencies address their challenges successfully, we will find a way to grow in this market. We will continue to look at targeted commercial opportunities, but only if we can do so without compromising our ability to invest in supporting our current customers.
