Pros

Good, hardworking coworkers; classrooms that are relatively decent in size with some tech upgrades like smartboards.

Cons

I moved here site-unseen - I'd never been to Las Vegas, and was hired through a phone interview. The principal that interviewed me painted an entirely different picture of the school during the interview. It sounded so wonderful, and I was excited, but the year was hell from the start. I never imagined myself leaving a job early, but I quit at the end of December. We were under constant pressure to bring up test scores, while no resources were given to us to do so. There was literally no reading curriculum. We had textbooks but were told we were actually forbidden from using them. We had no supplies but were constantly told things like "every child needs a notebook for reading and math," and it was quite obvious that teachers were expected to provide these things. No one cared if you had the lower kids or the IEP kids, it was only - why aren't they passing? My class size started at 32 kids for 4th grade, and I had around 8 IEP kids and very limited support. Every teacher at the school was miserable. We always felt like we were in trouble. Morale was lowest of the low. The school had 80% turnover the year before I got there, and 80% turnover again the year that I left. I was working 70 hours a week and still always behind. Observations felt more like attacks.

Pros

Working with the kids is by far the best part of this job. Though many of them come from troubled backgrounds and will prove to be challenging behaviorally, you will form deep attachments with even your most difficult students. Due to the lack of oversight, you get a lot of autonomy in your classroom and flexibility in approaching your curriculum.

Cons

CCSD is a very poorly run district. Funding is minimal, oversight and accountability are nonexistent, and administration comes and goes without leaving a sustainable framework for success. You will undoubtably be tested in unimaginable ways as you deal with the nightmarish policies and lack of support throughout the year. Watching the students you come to care about be continually let down by a broken system is mentally taxing and physically exhausting, and will break your heart every day you come to work.

Pros

Sadly, there are no pros to working for this unorganized school district. Class size is 42+ and teachers are stressed out beyond means.

Cons

Administration is abusive toward teachers and has no control over students behavior. Support staff spend the day having birthday parties in the front office.
