Pros

Lots of nice people and work environments, depending on who you work for. Good work/life balance for some and health insurance benefits.

Cons

Salary increases (if any) are minimal. After a few years, you're better off switching jobs. Get some experience and get out. Loyalty and hard work are not rewarded.

Good & Bad

Pros

For Field Engineers there is a lot of opportunity to see multiple industries and experience a lot of different places. The travel keeps it interesting and each project can be unique. There is room to grow and advance, however, unless you go out and grab those opportunities you can be passed by. The benefits are good; health insurance, 401k, health savings accounts for things not covered, and flexible schedules are all part of it.

Cons

The travel for a field engineer can be a bit much and is potentially the biggest drawback. Pay is on the lower end, but the flexible schedule makes up for it in my opinion.
