Pros

Smart individuals, lots of potential, good snacks, decent lunch benefit, and occasionally dynamic environment.

Cons

Lack of direction from management, tendency towards big bank hires who are eager to claim credit, but not necessarily able to really contribute. Not necessarily a FinTech as described.

Pros

Good engineering culture ( atleast used to be ) , Relatively new tech stack , startupey culture

Cons

1) leadership: There is a general lack of transparency within leadership’s decision making. The management team went from going on a hiring spree to stating sustainable growth / profitability to firing half of the design team , numerous talent acquisition professionals, engineers and product managers 2) General direction: The core focus of business verticals change rapidly. Again , going back to my above point, the management does not display transparency in decesion making 3) Loss of key talent: Clearstreet’s change in directions has resulted in it loosing a lot of key engineering managers 4) Compensation : Compensation is generally below market average 5) Combative culture: The company’s culture is pretty combative when it comes to inter team work. There is also a general lack of support to onboard new engineers. The view taken is to fire ppl if they ask for too much help on boarding 5) Hire and fire culture: it wasn’t like this before but there is a very callous attitude to firing individuals. There have been numerous people who have been fired just a month or two into their role. It seems asking for help while onboarding is generally looked down upon. They expect people to ramp up with little to no help

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review and for bringing these issues to our attention. At Clear Street, we value open and honest communication. It is our goal to be as transparent as possible with all our employees and to do what is best for our clients and our firm. We strive to provide fair and competitive compensation for everyone. We value our employees and the contributions they make to our business, and we will continue to participate in ongoing market salary evaluations to ensure our compensation is competitive across all locations and roles. At Clear Street, our top priority is our people. We are continuously investing in a culture that promotes collaboration and respect for one another. As part of our commitment, we are rolling out an in depth, full-day onboarding program for all new employees. This is designed to complement the existing engineering onboarding program and provide new hires with a 360 view of the firm. We plan to execute it across all roles in the near term. While we do not aim to hire for a short period of time, there have been some examples of short tenure, as with any organization. We try our best through our recruiting processes to find candidates that will be strong, long-term fits for Clear Street, but we aren't always right, and prefer to part ways earlier if there is misalignment. However, I want to assure you that we do not hire to fire and over the last few years, we have been successful in attracting, retaining and developing high quality performers, including our exceptional team of engineers. Separating with an employee is never an easy decision, and we understand that these circumstances can be stressful and uncertain for all colleagues. We want to assure you that these decisions are not taken lightly and are only made after objective consideration and review of performance. Thank you again for sharing your feedback and please don’t hesitate to reach out to any one of us in the People team to discuss further.
