I.T. Talent Leaving Quickly with Potential Outsourcing

Pros

Good health care benifets more or less. And the location is better than working downtown or near Beachwood area. Pay is about average within the local industry. But you must drink the CCF Kool-Aid.

Cons

For almost 2 years Cleveland Clinic has kept 500-1000 I.T. employees waiting to know what are going to do and if they will be outsourced to IBM or Dell. Peoples lives are on hold till a decision is made. Now the latest is "Yes" outsourceing will happen but it will be a hybrid solution. So not all I.T. and to both IBM & Dell. So we still don't know. So much talent has left The Cleveland Clinic I forsee several I.T. outages next year with them trying to fill the void with contractors. And the crazy thing about it was the current I.T. staff was the cheapest solution of all the RFP bids. Go figure.

Politics!

Pros

Large; unlike many large hospitals, they do hire entry-level practitioners - but mostly so they can pay them lower wages. They're always hiring! I had one manager who was amazing. Benefits are pretty good, if you can afford them.

Cons

The reason they're always hiring is because either people are leaving because they're dissatisfied or they've been fired because they didn't kiss butt enough. Highly political environment. Highly. Back-stabbing is an art there. Most of the docs are really smart, but many are also the biggest jerks. Make everyone else feel like they don't deserve to exist. Residents are good (because they have to be to graduate), until they become staff. Politics. Pay is well below industry standard. They say it's for the "privilege" of having Cleveland Clinic on your resume.

Pros

-Worthwhile mission -Respected organization with a good reputation -Many passionate employees who work towards improving patient care -The majority of employees are hard working and intelligent; you can learn a lot from them -Opportunities to work on many different projects -Red tape is minimal and the organization's operations run smoothly

Cons

-You are expected to "do more with less" -A lot of the leaders are arrogant and don't actually want to hear what their subordinates have to say -Doctors walk on water and expect everyone to cater to their needs -There is a lack of manners, and everyone thinks they are busier than everyone else; you will have to pick-up trash after meetings/events because people think they are above throwing their trash away -You can "fully meet expectations" in your annual review and receive a 1% "merit-based" raise, which doesn't even cover cost of living -Unless you change departments, there are minimal advancement opportunities -They charge for parking and you will still have to walk across campus to get to your office -Most benefits are being taken away and the cost of healthcare is rising
