Mediocre pay for a supposed "elite" institution, barely market rate, and not remotely competitive with the other top 5 ranked hospitals in the nation. Pay increases are typically 2-3% yearly. Despite being a Magnet designated facility, it would appear they purchase tis distinction moreso than earning it, as they have ZERO employee retention policies and practices. In regards to the above comment about restricted use of PTO: If you don't request PTO days at least 6 WEEKS in advance, very, very unlikely to be granted requests off. Also, the PTO is used as sick days, but because of failure to request 6 WEEKS in advance, you get penalized and punished for utilizing the PTO as sick days. Claim to be non-punitive, but anything outside COMPLETE COMPLIANCE results in memos, corrective actions, suspensions, and terminations. Claim to be "evidence based practice" culture, but all to often cherry pick what EBPs they incorporate, i.e. day - night rotational shifts are the normal schedule. Upper management also seems to take joy and pleasure in over complicating tasks, instead of maximizing efficiency with all the technology they utilize. Absolutely NO chance for upward advancement if you are not a politician, but plenty of lateral movement opportunities. This place also unethically utilizes staff: hired for a specific unit (your home unit), but constantly "float" to other units, and without getting the float premium that a float pool RN receives for floating (upper mgmnt. rather use regular floor RNs as float RNs, as it keeps the hourly pay lower then using a "float pool" premium paid RN). Continuity of care is minimally utilized, despite being an EBP. Staff to RN is said to be 4:1 in the Cardiology stepdowns, but typically is 5 or 6:1. This is with the highest acuity level patients in the country; acuity levels that would be considered Critical Care and ICU level care @ other hospitals is classified as "Acute Care," and thus higher patient to RN ratios. Often times RNs have to do total care, meaning no nurse assistants to answer call lights, assist patients to restroom, etc, especially on night shift...
